(making bitten nails beautiful)
Nail biting is a habit that is tough to break, but it is possible!
Extending bitten nails is a specialized service, requiring a lot of practice, but effects (especially long term) can be stunning. Initially the nail bed (the pink part) is very short, but with gel protecting the nails, the nails grow, reattaching itself to a nail bed, making the shape of the nails longer and looking more slender. Let's not forget about the cuticles and the surrounding skin! Usually nail biters have red, inflamed cuticles and very dry skin around the nails. That is caused by a constant contact with saliva. Each maintenance appointment includes manicure, but effects of the manicure can be prolonged by everyday use of good quality of cuticle oil. Because with each hand washing the oil is washed out, reapplying often is necessary. If the surrounding skin is red and inflamed I recommend adding few drops of "Tea Tree oil" to the cuticle oil. Tea tree oil has wonderful antibacterial and antifungal qualities, as well as it tastes bad, which helps to prevent from chewing and biting. If there is excess of dry skin, but there is no inflammation I recommend applying 8-10 % glycolic acid cream every night and then using cuticle oil during the day. (Appropriate face cream available in most of drugstores can be sufficient *) With each appointment nails will look better and better. Speaking from experience working with bitten nails is different and it has to be approached differently. Bitten nails usually grow very fast (body tries to repair the damage), so initially appointments will be spaced more closely. The end result is not achieved until about 2 months later, so little patience is required. Extending the nails only once doesn't "cure" anyone from biting (usually, I can't speak for everyone), so I came up with a program that helps to control nail biting successfully. * Please contact me directly for recommendations. 1. Appointment # 1 It includes a very detailed cuticle work using enzymatic cuticle softener which beautifully cleans up the cuticles as well as it removes any stains from the nails. This step is usually little bit more time consuming then usually. I then assess the nails and based on that, I choose appropriate method of extending the nails. I usually sculpt with the gel using little bit different way of sculpting, because there is no free edge to put the form under. Sometimes I choose to put some acrylic on the tip of the nail and sculpt with gel from there or sometimes tips can be customized and applied only to the very tip of the nail and then gel applied over (please don't mistake this for "fake, glue on nails"). (Please allow 1:30 - 1:45 hr for this appointment) 2. Appointment # 2 (7-10 days later) This appointment includes manicure with cuticle softener, shortening of the nails and so called "Re-gloss". This means that the surface of the gel is filed and shaped, and usually (if there are no repairs) one coat of new gel is applied to the re-growth and the gel. The gel underneath the free edge (the white part) is also cleaned up and smoothed out. So if there is any unevenness underneath the nails, please try your hardest not to pick, and know that this is temporary and it will be taken care of at this appointment. If this appointment is skipped, clients usually come back for appointment #1, which is extending the nails again. I don't recommend this, because that prevents the nail bed from healing and the nails never really have a chance to reattach to the nail bed (which makes them much stronger and longer lasting) (Please allow 40-50 min for this appointment) * Please inform if there is any breaks, because that requires more time to be booked. 3. Appointment # 3 (2 weeks later) ncludes manicure and a regular "Gel Maintenance". Nails are shortened, shaped so they look balanced. About 50% of the gel is removed and new gel is applied. (Please allow 1:15-1:20 min) 4. Appointment # 4 (3 weeks later)…… and following. If this schedule is followed, the nails and the nail bed (the pink part) by then will be looking much longer and more slender. Growth of the nails will be assessed at this point and frequency of the visits recommended (Please allow 1:15- 1:30 min) |
